Photography: Ankor Wat

Angkor Wat (Khmer: អង្គរវត្ត) is the largest Hindu temple complex in the world. The temple was built by King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century inYasodharapura (Khmer: យសោធរបុរៈ, present-day Angkor), the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from theShaivism tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation – first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

As featured in the movie, Tomb Raider. Ta Prohm is the modern name of a temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. It has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors.

Photography: Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Sihanoukville, also known as Kampong Saom, is a province (khaet) of Cambodia on the Gulf of Thailand. This port city is a growing Cambodian urban center, located 185 kilometres (115 mi) southwest of the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. The province is named after King Father Norodom Sihanouk and grew up around the construction of Sihanoukville Port. Construction on the port began in June 1955 and it was the only deep water port in Cambodia. The port was built in part due to the waning power of the French leading to the Vietnamese tightening their control over the Mekong Delta and hence restricting river access to Cambodia. Sihanoukville's beaches have made it a popular tourist destination.

Photography: Danyang-Kunshan Bridge, China

The Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge is the world's longest bridge. It is a 164.8 kilometres (102.4 mi) long viaduct on the Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. The bridge is located on the rail line between Shanghai and Nanjing in East China’s Jiangsu province. It is in the Yangtze River Delta where the geography is characterized by lowland rice paddies, canals, rivers and lakes. The bridge runs roughly parallel to the Yangtze River, about 5 to 10 miles to its south. There is a 9-kilometre long (5.6 mi) section over open water across Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou.[1] It was completed in 2010 and opened in 2011. Employing 10,000 people, construction took four years and cost about $8.5 billion. Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge currently holds the Guinness World Record for the longest bridge in the world in any category as of June 2011

Press: POP Beijing Represent!

Excerpts from the informal intervew with CRI.

Maraming salamat Machelle at POP Beijing!

(Read More Below ...)

MIRTH OF THE ISLANDS: : A Photoexhibit on the Philippines

Introduction:

This is a collection of 30 photographs taken by the Pinoy Overseas Photographers (POP) Beijing during a trip to Samar and Leyte, two provinces located in the central part of the Philippines which face the Pacific Ocean.

The photographs reflect the sentiments, pastimes, joys and values of the Filipino people in the whole Philippine archipelago, which has a total coastline of 36,289 kilometers and encompasses over 7,100 islands.

This photoexhibit will travel across China in the Years of Friendly Exchanges (YFE) in 2012-2013, which celebrate the centuries-old friendship and goodwill between the two nations.

The images convey to the Chinese people the warm, friendly spirit of the Filipino people, and highlight the fact that Filipinos and the Chinese share an important cultural affinity: they both place a high premium on harmony with family, community and nature.

The theme also dovetails with the new campaign of the Philippines’ Department of Tourism, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.”

Photography: Jiangkou Great Wall, China

Jiankou (Chinese: 箭扣; pinyin: jian kou) is a section of the Great Wall of China. This section is a photographic hotspot due to its unique style, steep mountains and beautiful scenery. 'Jiankou', is translated as 'Arrow Nock' in English, for the shape of the mountain is like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrow nock.

Jiankou Great Wall located in the Huairou District 73 km north of Beijing. The Jiankou section of the Great Wall of China is located between the Mutianyu--ten kilometers to the east—and the Moshikou sections of the Great Wall of China. The Jiankou section of the wall was constructed in 1368 during the period of the Ming Dynasty. It is made of large white rocks which can be seen from a great distance.

Dali is one of the most popular spots for independent China travellers and hugely popular with those working, teaching and studying in China. 50 minutes by plane or three to four hours by bus from Kunming, Dali is the perfect place to relax.

Dali has a long and rather glorious history. In 738 the Nanzhao Kingdom was established with Dali as its capital and covered a large area of Yunnan and northern Burma and parts of Sichuan and Guizhou. The original capital of the Nanzhao Kingdom was located in Weishan (within Dali Prefecture) and later moved to sites around Erhai Lake. The territory conquered was quite substantial and held over a long period. The kingdom survived almost 200 years and had 13 kings before collapsing. After several decades of chaos the Kingdom of Dali emerged in 937.

Rice Terraces are used in farming to cultivate sloped land. Graduated terrace steps are commonly used to farm on hilly or mountainous terrain. Terraced fields decrease erosion and surface runoff, and are effective for growing crops requiring much water, such as rice.
